Ithaca Talent Education
The Junior Teaching Suzuki Program has a long established partnership with Ithaca Talent Education. As both director of ITE and a member of Ithaca College's Music Education Department, Sandy Reuning coordinates the junior teaching string program. The Suzuki Program allows junior teachers who are focusing in string education the opportunity to work with public school age students while being supervised and advised by both a college professor and an ITE mentor/master teacher. These lessons provide valuable educational experiences for the involved children and a terrific teaching opportunity for our junior string teachers. During these junior year student teaching experiences, the involved student teachers are given the opportunity to implement ideas, concepts, knowledge, and pedagogy learned during their undergraduate coursework and also to collaborate with the students' parents in the Suzuki tradition. In particular, these pre-service teachers are afforded the opportunity to implement content being taught in a concurrent String Pedagogy course.
