Jennifer Sengin, ChorusJennifer Sengin, Chorus
Director of Choirs, East Brunswick High School; MM in Choral Conducting, Ithaca College.

Jennifer Sengin has conducted choirs in the United States, Canada, Italy, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Ms. Sengin is the Director of Choirs at East Brunswick High School. She oversees all activities in a large choral program consisting of 270 students in five choirs: Concert Choir Honors, Bella Voce Honors, Chorus, Men’s Choir, and Acabellas. Additionally, she serves as Music Director of the musical and teaches Singing for Musical Theatre. Under her direction, choirs from East Brunswick High School performed with Tim Janis at Carnegie Hall in NYC, Kenny Rogers at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and at the Princeton Chapel on the Princeton University Campus. Her choirs received Superior ratings in both Performance and Sight-Singing at the NJ ACDA High School Choral Festival. Additionally, Concert Choir Honors was selected to perform in the Evening Showcase at their first appearance at the Roxbury Choral Invitational in March 2015.

Ms. Sengin has received several grants from the East Brunswick Education Foundation. These grants have enhanced the program by providing additional performance opportunities for students, bringing in guest artists and choirs, commissioning composers, and purchasing acoustical shells for the entire school district.

Currently, Ms. Sengin is on the faculty of the Ithaca College Summer Music Academy where she conducts the Academy Chorus and teaches conducting. Ms. Sengin has guest conducted CJMEA Treble Honor Chorus, Salem County Honors Choir, Rowan University Festival of Song, and the New York Area All-State Women’s Chorus (Zone 3). In addition, she served as the Conductor of the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra Choir. Ms. Sengin served as a Rehearsal Conductor and Assistant Manager of the 2012 and as a Rehearsal Conductor of the 2014 New Jersey All-State Women’s Chorus and the 2014 All-State Mixed Chorus.

Ms. Sengin is passionate about teaching and has presented sessions at the New Jersey Music Educators Association Conference, Rutgers University, Rowan University, and The College of New Jersey. These presentations include: Engaging Boys in the Middle School and High School Choral Program: Getting them into your room; Movement in the Choral Rehearsal for Expressive and Engaging Singing; Navigating Your First Few Years of Teaching; and Developing Student Leadership: Empowering students to be musical and social role models. Additionally, she has published and contributed to articles in the Choral Journal and Tempo Magazine. She served as Repertoire and Standards Chair of Ethnic and Multicultural Perspectives for the New Jersey Chapter of American Choral Directors Association for three years.

Ms. Sengin is an alumna of Ithaca College, where she earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting. While at Ithaca, she served as the Graduate Conducting Assistant for the Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chorus, and the All-Campus Choral Ensemble. She studied Choral Conducting with Dr. Janet Galván and voice with Dr. Brad Hougham. In February of 2010, Ms. Sengin assisted with the preparation and performance of the Ithaca College Women’s Chorale at the ACDA Eastern Division Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ms. Sengin also served as the Co-Director of Senior Choir of the Ithaca Children’s Choirs, under the artistic direction of Dr. Janet Galván. In the Summer of 2010, Ms. Sengin served as an Assistant Conductor on the Ithaca Children’s Choir tour to Prague, Vienna, and Salzburg. She was a finalist in the ACDA National Graduate Student Conducting Competition in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in March of 2009.

In the fall of 2015, Ms. Sengin will begin a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Michigan State University.
