Ithaca College Alumnus David Muir '95 to be featured on WSYR program 'Extraordinary People and Places of Central New York'
Ithaca College alumnus David Muir, of ABC News, will be featured tonight at 8 p.m. on WSYR’s series “Extraordinary People and Places of Central New York.”
Even as a boy growing up in Onondaga Hill, Muir said he wanted to be a news anchor. At 12, he even wrote to WTVH-5 in Syracuse, where he later interned. After graduating from IC’s Roy H. Park School of Communications, his first job was even back at the station.
He then moved on to Boston and then to New York City, where viewers will go behind the scenes tonight to watch Muir working with 20/20 co-anchor Elizabeth Vargas.
The Onondaga Central High School grad says his dream job takes him around the world but doesn’t allow him to return to Central New York quite as often as he'd like.
He continues to contribute to Ithaca College though. He delivered the 2011 commencement address, and he is the namesake of a study-abroad scholarship, the “David Muir ’95 Journalism Award for Overseas Studies.”
Tonight’s show, hosted by Carrie Lazarus, will air at 8 p.m. and will be available online after it airs on NewsChannel 9.
