Ithaca College to Introduce High School Students to Careers in Health Care

ITHACA, NY — Young people interested in health care fields will have the opportunity to explore career possibilities while getting a taste of college life at HealthQuest, a weeklong program being held at Ithaca College. Running from July 9 to 13, the residential camp is for central New York high school students entering grades 10 and 11 this fall.

The participants will be offered a week of hands-on activities and classes that will introduce them to the relationship between science, the health professions and health career opportunities. Through interactive learning experiences with practicing professionals and college instructors, the students will be exposed to career possibilities in allied health fields that include speech-language pathology and audiology; exercise science; athletic training; occupational and physical therapy; therapeutic recreation; gerontology; social work and other areas of allied health sciences.

HealthQuest is sponsored by the Ithaca College School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. CNYAHEC is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote improvements in the supply, training and development of health-care professionals in a 14-county area that includes Tompkins County.
