Dear faculty, staff, and students,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Jean Hardwick, Dana Professor and full professor in the Department of Biology, and Jack Powers, associate professor and chair of the Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies, have accepted my invitation to serve as co-chairs of the provost search committee.
I plan to name the rest of the members of the search committee soon, once I receive nominees from each of our council chairs: Tom Swensen, chair of Faculty Council; Candy Ross, chair of Staff Council; and Carlie McClinsey, chair of Student Governance Council.
The search committee will include: eight faculty members, including the two faculty co-chairs; a senior administrator; a staff member; and two students. Once the committee has been selected, the members will begin their work with Witt/Kieffer, the firm guiding our search.
On October 27, search consultants from Witt/Kieffer were at Ithaca College for a full day of visits with faculty, staff, and students. They will be back on campus this Friday, November 10, and there are three opportunities that day for members of our campus community to provide their thoughts on the provost position at Ithaca College:
10:10 – 11:00 a.m., Textor 103
An open conversation will be held for faculty to provide feedback on the draft search prospectus and any final comments on what qualities they would like to see within this position.
11:10 a.m. – Noon, Textor 103
An open conversation will be held for faculty, staff, and students to provide feedback on the draft search prospectus and any final comments on what qualities they would like to see within this position.
3:10 – 4:00 p.m., Textor 103
A second open conversation will be held for faculty to provide feedback on the draft search prospectus and any final comments on what qualities they would like to see within this position.
Members of Witt/Kieffer have been very appreciative of the participation of our campus community in this process, and will begin to draft the position prospectus based on the input from the October 27 and November 10 meetings and the feedback I have also given them related to the many sessions I have held with faculty since September.
I encourage you to participate in the upcoming opportunities to shape the provost’s position prospectus and to provide your opinions about this important role on our campus.
