Educational Philosophy

If I were to espouse one thought on Career Development and perhaps life in general, it is that each of us is ultimately responsible for our own outcome. Expressed another way, "life is a do-it-yourself" project.  This doesn't mean, however, that you shouldn't seek help and in fact, I encourage you to get as much assistance as possible.  Luckily, at Ithaca College, between Career Services, staff, alumni, the library, Academic Support Services, and the Writing Center (to name a few) the resources available to you are vast.

I view my work as an educator and career development professional as that of coach, connector, facilitator, and partner.  My goal is to help you along the way so that you can grow, learn, experience and ultimately succeed.  My work with student and alumni typically involves:

  • Identifying your goals
  • Determining what skills you have and what skills you need
  • Connecting you to the tools and resources that will help you get there
  • Teaching you how to use them and coaching you along the way
  • Facilitating relationships with alumni and employers

It's basically this:  Goal + Engagement + Relationships = Success
