1.7.2.17.2 Bylaws of the Graduate Council

Article I: Membership

Membership on the Graduate Council includes the chair/director of each graduate program and the School Dean, or their designee. In addition, the Associate Provost, Graduate and Professional Studies and a representative from the office of admission and office of the registrar serve on the council as ex-officio non-voting members.

The council is chaired by a council graduate program faculty member, who also serves as the chair of the Graduate Curricular Subcommittee (GCS). Graduate council members will elect a chair by majority vote. The election will take place in April before the academic year in which new chair takes office. The chair will serve a two-year term and may be reelected without term limits.

Article II: Policy Changes

The council reserves the right to change any graduate policy stated in this policy manual and the Ithaca College Graduate Catalog. The graduate programs at Ithaca College are registered with the New York State Education Department.

Article III: Curriculum Changes

The council shall establish a Graduate Curricular Subcommittee (GCS), to be chaired by the council co-chair. The GCS is responsible for reviewing all proposed degree-bearing graduate programs and curriculum in accordance with its established policies and procedures. The GCS makes recommendations on graduate programs and curriculum to the full council for a vote.

Article IV: Amendment Procedures

Follow procedures as outlined in Section 1.7.2.17.1 Article V of the Constitution of the Graduate Council.

Article V: Voting

Graduate program faculty members and the Deans on the council are all voting members. The Associate Provost, Graduate and Professional Studies, office of admission, and office of the registrar are non-voting members. A majority of the voting members constitutes a quorum. Approval of motions, other than amendments to the constitution or bylaws, requires a majority vote of the quorum.
