LGBTQ Film Series Screening of The Lavender Scare

The little-known story of an unrelenting campaign by the federal government to identify and fire all employees suspected of being gay or lesbian. In 1953, President Eisenhower declared them a threat to national security and unfit for government service. Over the next four decades, tens of thousands of government workers lost their jobs for no reason other than their sexual orientation. But the actions of the government had an unintended effect. They inadvertently helped ignite the gay rights movement.

I Am Jazz Reading and Discussion

Provost Dr. La Jerne Cornish will read the book "I Am Jazz" - the story of a transgender child based upon the real life experiences of Jazz Jennings - in Clark Lounge, Campus Center on Thursday February 28 at 2 pm. A discussion of the children's book and other new titles including "Julián Is a Mermaid" and "They She He Me: Free to Be!" will follow, facilitated by Luca Maurer. Refreshments will be provided.

Rainbow Reception for LGBTQA+ and Allied Students

The Rainbow Reception is a cultural celebration of Ithaca College's graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual and allied seniors and graduate students.

All students, staff, and faculty who wish to celebrate the accomplishments of our LGBTQA+ and allied seniors and graduate students are welcome and reservations are required.

Reservations, in advance, are required in order to attend.

Brooke Guinan was the first openly transgender firefighter in New York City. A third- generation firefighter, Brooke has a passion for heroism that runs in her blood. When Brooke transitions, it poses a challenge to a macho profession and to her family. Brooke and her boyfriend Jim, an Air Force veteran, realize that having the life they want means being vulnerable in the face of judgment. A heartfelt portrait of change in the American family and workplace, and a testament to love, courage, and loyalty.

The first feature documentary about Lorraine Hansberry, the visionary playwright who authored A Raisin in the Sun. Artist, activist and public intellectual, Hansberry was outspoken and defiant against injustice and her works tackling race, human rights, women’s equality and sexuality anticipated social and political movements on the horizon.
