Provokes discussion on gender and sexuality as they are related to our food system.

LGBT Film Series Screening of Jewel's Catch One

The oldest Black owned disco in America is the legacy of businesswoman and activist Jewel Thais-Williams. One of the original safe spaces for both the LGBT and Black communities, her club grew to become known as the "unofficial studio 54 of the West Coast," and she became a national role model for how to fight discrimination and serve others. The film is narrated by one of Ithaca College's most distinguished alumni, actress and activist CCH Pounder.

Screening in collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement as part of the Women Leadership Series.

LGBTQ Film Series Screening of The Most Dangerous Year

The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series at Ithaca College kicks off the Spring 2020 schedule on Tuesday, February 4, with "The Most Dangerous Year." Free and open to the public, the film will be shown at 6 p.m. in Textor 103.

In 2016 a small group of families with transgender kids fought a wave of discriminatory anti-transgender legislation sweeping the nation. With civil rights activists and ally lawmakers, they embarked on an uncharted journey for their children's lives and futures in this present-day civil rights story.

These are the ones who teach us to live in new ways and how to better love ourselves and each other. Their witness invites us to see our own Strangeness as a source of power, truth, and possibility for building a more just world together.

LGBTQ Film Series Screening of The Lavender Scare

The little-known story of an unrelenting campaign by the federal government to identify and fire all employees suspected of being gay or lesbian. In 1953, President Eisenhower declared them a threat to national security and unfit for government service. Over the next four decades, tens of thousands of government workers lost their jobs for no reason other than their sexual orientation. But the actions of the government had an unintended effect. They inadvertently helped ignite the gay rights movement.
