Course Descriptions for Art Education

Core Education and Pedagogy Courses

You will complete 27 credits of coursework in Education and Pedagogy. All but one of these courses is co-populated with students enrolled in the M.A.T. programs in Adolescence Education and Agriculture Education. You can review the course descriptions of these core courses here.

The elementary portion of the K-12 certification range is addressed in EDUC 60500 (Foundations of Literacy), in EDUC 51410 (Pedagogy and Practice for the Art Teacher), and in the elementary school student teaching experience. 

In alignment with New York State teacher certification requirements, you will complete 12 credits coursework in the summer and fall terms which are accompanied by field experiences. Six credits of a supervised student teaching experience occur in the spring semester.

Graduate Coursework in Art

ART 59200: Studio Art Projects (4 credits, to be taken in two consecutive summers, for a total of 8 credits). This is a content-specific course which permits a variety of topics based on your specific area of art. 

EDUC 51410: Pedagogy and Practice for the Art Teacher (3 credits). This course is completed in conjunction with Pedagogy and Practice courses in other M.A.T. content areas.
