  • SLO 1. The student demonstrates excellent posture and hand position while performing.
  • SLO 2. The student demonstrates the ability to play with both hands at the same time, hands working independently and style, tone, and balance appropriate to the literature. This is demonstrated through the performance of piano repertoire at the early intermediate or above level.
  • SLO 3. The student demonstrates the ability to use the pedal effectively.
  • SLO 4. The student demonstrates the ability to play hands together with facility and even tone and legato articulation in both major and minor keys. This is demonstrated through traditional piano technical exercises such as scales, arpeggios, and block and broken triads.
  • SLO 5. The student demonstrates the ability to harmonize a melody (chord symbols provided) using diatonic triads and 7th chords.
  • SLO 6. The student demonstrates the ability to play a two-hand accompaniment or harmonization while singing a melody.

  • SLO 1. Technical Proficiency. The student will demonstrate the continued development of technical proficiency and skill through traditional patterns, control of tone, articulation, and balance between the hands, appropriate and skillful use of the pedal, and overall facility and ease at the piano.
  • SLO 2. Sight Reading. The student will sight-read fluently and accurately textures such as easy piano scores, choral scores up to two parts, and vocal lines from solo repertoire.
  • SLO 3. Leadership. The student will be able to lead the class in song at the piano without frequent hesitations and while maintaining eye contact with students.
  • SLO 4. Creativity. The student will demonstrate refined musical decisions through such creative skills as harmonization of simple melodies, improvisation, creating vocal warm-ups, song introductions, and accompaniments, and playing familiar tunes by ear.
  • The Bachelor of Music in Performance graduate demonstrates through performance an understanding of different musical styles. Students are able to make appropriate stylistic choices to reflect the music of the period, culture or style.
