Submitted on behalf of IC students interested in starting a support group for men to talk about things that impact their lives.

Hey Guys,

Last semester, a group of students collaborated to form Active Men, a branch of Active Minds, to raise awareness about men and mental health.  The group addressed the stigma about men seeking mental health support (counseling) by creating posters, a display case exhibit, and hosted a guest speaker who talked about his reluctance to seek help due to the pressures and negative social construction of masculinity.

This year we are putting our theory to practice and forming a support group called "Guy Talk" that will focus on everyday issues impacting men's lives.

If you are interested in joining a group of guys for serious conversationt, we'll begin meeting Tuesday, October 30, 5:15-6:30pm.  The plan is to meet weekly.  If you are interested in being a part of this group, send an email to Dr. LeBron Rankins < at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) before Monday, October 29, 2012.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact LeBron Rankins at or (607) 274-3136. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
