Volunteer, Engage, Connect!

Community Plunge is a great opportunity for first-year students to volunteer and connect with the Ithaca Community before the academic year begins. Participants are placed in teams and spend the day working with a variety of local service organizations around Ithaca. Students can participate in a variety of projects that range from construction to tutoring.

"Community Plunge exemplifies everything I would ever want to do: Give myself entirely and be able to know I've helped people by the end of the day. It's the greatest feeling, and I know it helps others."

Past participants have: built nature trails that are wheelchair accessible, painted at local agencies, assisted with summer camp programs, and prepared lunch for residents living in senior citizen facilities.

Plunge participants have the chance to:

  • Explore the Ithaca community

  • Build relationships with other first-year students

  • Begin to learn about issues experienced in the local community

  • Develop teamwork skills

  • Have fun!
