Ithaca is a community that is full of talented and funny people.

Intersecting with “Lights, Camera, Action,” this program will explore the downtown area with emphasis on local theatre spaces. In addition to seeing some cool performance spaces, an element of this experience will be an improv class where participants will be able to interact with each other and explore their funny! Be prepared to explore, move, and laugh.

In this program, participants will:

  • Participants will tour several Ithaca area theatres and learn about the rich history of the theatre and comedic arts in the Tompkins County community.
  • Participants will reflect on their own engagement with the arts and opportunities to keep them an active part of their Ithaca experience.
  • Participants will explore the comedic arts with an in-person improv class lead by members of ComedyFLOPs, Ithaca’s improv troupe.

Program Logistics:

  • New students can participate in this Jumpstart program on August 19-20, 2024
  • Jumpstart participants will move into their residence hall rooms on Monday, August 19 between 9:00am - 4:00pm.

  • The program runs from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Monday (includes a welcome BBQ!), approximately 9:00am-6:00pm on Tuesday, with a Jumpstart closing event on Tuesday evening.

  • A catered lunch will be provided for participants of this program on Tuesday, all other meals will be covered by your IC meal plan in the dining hall. Transportation and all program materials are provided for this program.

  • Participants will be engaged in fun and physical activities; please wear clothes that will allow you to walk around the downtown area.

  • There is no charge for this program.
