We don’t just share information—we shape understanding. We ask the right questions, connect the dots, and amplify what matters. Nimble, informed, and audience-focused, we help every part of the college rise by showing the value of the Ithaca College experience—because how we tell our story helps shape our future.
Sharing Ithaca College’s Story
We tell the stories of our faculty, students, staff, alumni, and friends in diverse and vibrant ways that inform, engage, and inspire action. We partner throughout our campus to accomplish the following:
- Showcase the distinctive experiences that define an Ithaca College education
- Create content that helps prospective students and families envision themselves at IC
- Encourage and invite alumni and supporters to remain engaged with the Ithaca College community
- Share voices and stories that demonstrate IC’s strengths and values
- Highlight the achievements and impact of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni
- Share the college’s strategic efforts with clarity, care, and transparency
Our Storytelling Teams
Our MarCom team manages leadership messages and crisis communication as well as IC News and media relations.
Our Creative and Marketing teams manage Ithaca College's brand and help our campus partners strategize and solve their marketing, content, social media, and design needs.
We also manage the IC website, one of our primary tools for communicating with key audiences and presenting the college's public image.
To maintain and strengthen the Ithaca College brand, we have developed a brand strategy and brand identity standards for all communications.
The clear and consistent use of these standards across the college reinforces positive brand recognition and engagement by creating an emotional connection with our audiences: prospective students and their caregivers, alumni, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Consistency in visual identity also protects Ithaca College’s licenses and trademarks and increases the value of our identity over time.
Working with Us
We are responsible for developing and implementing integrated communications and marketing strategies to support the focus areas listed below. Our work provides a foundation for generating a strong, positive reputation for the college.
- Brand reputation and visibility
- Enrollment
- Advancement
- College-wide strategic initiatives and priorities
- Emergency, crisis, and public information
To be considered strategic for our work, initiatives must have a primary focus on Ithaca College’s goals for yield, retention, or advancement and serve to enhance Ithaca’s visibility and brand reputation. Our level of support and type of partnership depends on project characteristics.
In all of the publications, statements, reports, stories, media releases, social media, marketing materials, and other information that MarCom manages, accuracy and truthfulness is required. The process to ensure this standard entails the following steps, which are applied as appropriate based on the type of project:
- Verifying information with subject matter experts or content owners
- Researching with authoritative sources such as the Office of Analytics and Institutional Research, the Ithaca College library archives, or other official college records
- Fact checking through independent external sources and publications
- Verifying directly with the subjects of stories
In an instance when an error does get published, the office will run a correction (in the case of news stories or magazine publications) or revise and replace the erroneous material (in the case of non-publication material).
