What makes games fun? How do game designers create engaging, entertaining experiences for players? In this course, you’ll learn about the essential elements of games and the psychology of play, all while creating and testing your very own 2D computer games.

Course topics include game mechanics, aesthetics, storytelling, balance, interest curves, characters, game worlds, controls, usability, playtesting, and implementation. You’ll build games using Stencyl, an introductory game design tool. No prior experience in computer programming, graphic design, game development, or any other related field is needed!
Game design is taught by Nathan Prestopnik, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Ithaca College. He is passionate about computer games: teaching them, making them, and playing them.
