Specialities:  Social Movements and Social Change; Critical Theory; and Visual Culture

About MeBorn and raised in Toronto, I arrive at IC by way of New York, where I taught courses in urban politics, visual culture, race, social movements, and theory at Fordham University and Brooklyn College. Committed to the idea that sociology is a resource upon which students might draw while working to change the world, I have pursued a research agenda consistent with that aim. In my classroom, I encourage students to foreground their own experiences while emphasizing the importance of careful reading, deep reflection, and the cultivation of what Marx once called the “ruthless criticism of everything existing.”
