About Me: Lecturer in the Sociology department, as well as the founding Program Director of Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services. Maurer co-authored The Teaching Transgender Toolkit: A Facilitator’s Guide to Increasing Knowledge, Decreasing Prejudice & Building Skills, which was named 2016 Book of the Year by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. He also co-authored The LGBTQIA+ Supportive Campus: Developing Effective Policies, Programs & Practices, and is co-editor with Sociology colleague Rebecca Plante of Doing Gender Diversity: Readings in Theory and Real-World Experience. Maurer received the American Psychological Association’s Division 44 Distinguished Contribution to Education and Training Award in 2017. The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists has designated him a Certified Sexuality Educator and Counselor, and he has served on the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Sexuality Education, The Prevention Researcher, and Transgender Studies Quarterly. Maurer is also a Certified Family Life Educator through the National Council on Family Relations.
