Before seeking funding within MTD – we ask that you inquire from outside sources:
Faculty Professional Development Funding
MTD has allocated $1.4k for each full-time faculty member (teaching staff and PTPC faculty can request funding equal to the portion of full-time teaching their contract constitutes). The purpose of these funds is to support faculty in raising and honing their research, performance, and pedagogical level and talents (as well as develop new skills) while enhancing the reputation of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.
Faculty receiving reimbursement from outside (non-IC) sources or honoraria of any sort (whether for a presentation, performance, or panel, etc.) need to declare this funding on their funding request. Professional development funding will be used to cover expenses above what is being paid for elsewhere. Faculty should consult the Dean in these cases.
MTD travel funds are not to be used to cover any costs associated with missed classes, lessons, or ensembles. These areas are the individual instructor's responsibility. Instructors must work within policies and guidelines as set forth in the unit, School and College policy on absences from campus.
There is no review process to obtain these funds. Please submit a spend authorization prior to travel for approval.
Instructions for submitting a Spend Authorization. (Do not submit. Hit “save and close” and notify Mary Scheidegger.)
Annual Budget Requests
Budget requests are gathered in the fall semester for the following fiscal year. You will receive outreach from the Dean's Office pertaining to the budget submission process. For faculty questions on usage of funds, if you do not manage a budget line, please see your Department Chair.
Supplemental Funding Requests
Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre, and Dance Supplemental Funding is designed for consideration of one-time projects or needs occurring outside the normal budgetary planning process. Using funds from donors to the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, the Supplemental Funding process allows the MTD to systematically evaluate initiatives put forward by faculty and staff. Faculty are strongly encouraged to include any approved requests in their annual Faculty Activity Report.
Ideally, parties should submit the Supplemental Funding Request Form a minimum of 30 days prior to the anticipated project or need. All requests are evaluated on their correlation with advancing the MTD Vision & Mission and the scope of curricular impact on the MTD community.
Faculty may request additional travel funds for special circumstances (additional conferences or performances, special events, international travel, etc.) only after they have utilized their $1,400 allotment for the fiscal year (June 1-May 31).
- Requests for $500 or less are evaluated by the MTD Dean’s Office.
- Requests for $501 or greater are evaluated by the MTD Leadership Team.
