In 2023, when the Coddington Road Community Center (CRCC) began its two-year expansion project to meet the growing needs of local families, it was in need of alternative space for some 40 children, ages 3 to 12. IC stepped in to make the college’s Circle Apartments Community Building available to CRCC as an accessible, dedicated environment for childcare, ensuring that families could access the same quality care—without disruption—while they pursued their work and educational goals.
Heather Mount, CRCC’s executive director, says that while the physical space is vital, IC students, faculty, and staff provided much more: “The OT program has been very engaging for our preschool group. I think all parties involved enjoyed the experience. We have also had [IC’s] public safety in for safety presentations, had a student do some science experiments with our school age group, and earlier in the fall several football players visited and did some activities with the kids.” The children were also introduced to the hiking trails in the IC Natural Lands and watched soccer games.
