Interns Offer Talents and Service

Students enjoy exploring Cayuga Lake

Hundreds of Ithaca College interns bolster businesses and nonprofits throughout the region each year. They contribute their passion, ingenuity, and diligence to organizations by supporting them with research, public engagement, and innovative problem-solving. Whether assisting with marketing efforts, event coordination, or data analysis, Ithaca College students contribute talent and hard work that strengthens our economy and enriches our community.

Discover Cayuga Lake (DCL) employs interns like environmental science major Patty McHugh ’25 to engage with the public aboard floating classrooms and family-oriented eco-tours that cruise the lake during the summer tourism season. “If we didn’t have these interns, we wouldn’t have their youthful energy, spirit, and ideas to integrate into our work,” says Astrid Jirka, DCL’s director of tourism initiatives and outreach.

“They bring their creativity and passion to what we do, and they’re getting an amazing experience integrating their own interests into a real-world situation that can impact a lot of people.”

Alumni in the Community

These are just five of the many Ithaca College alumni who embody the spirit of community leadership, using their passion and expertise to create positive change right here in the college’s backyard. Their inspiring work highlights the profound impact of an IC education—and is just a glimpse of the many alumni shaping this place we call home.
