2011 Award Winners
Jill Cook teaches at Brookfield Central High School in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Cook is currently offering courses in journalism, advanced placement (AP) English language and composition, research and composition, and literature studies. Cook advises Brookfield’s award-winning school newspaper, TYRO, as a co-curricular activity. Cook has served on the Board of Directors for the Kettle Moraine Press Association (KEMPA) since 1990, and this September, was given the association’s Nancy Becker Newspaper Adviser of the Year award. During that time, Cook has also served as an Instructor at The University of Wisconsin in Whitewater as well as a Fall Conference Co-Director and Winter Adviser Retreat Coordinator.
Cook was a reviewer for Exploring Journalism and the Media (2009) for Cengage Learning. She was selected for the 2009 Intensive Journalistic Writing Institute, sponsored by The Washington Post. This year, she received the Journalism Educator of the Year Award from Youth Journalism International and her school was given a GE STAR Award.
