Your midterm grades are an indicator of your current performance in a course.
To view your midterm grades, log in to DegreeWorks and scroll to the bottom. If you are concerned about the letter grade you are seeing, this is a great opportunity to connect with your faculty to confirm your progress in the class.

Reach out to your faculty! Stop by their office hours (posted in your syllabus or on Canvas). If their office hours don't work for your schedule, reach out to them to set up a time to meet. Here is a simple email template to help you start the conversation:
Hello Professor (insert last name),
I hope you are doing well!
I am in your (insert class) at (insert time). After reflecting on how the first half of the semester went, I am not super proud of my performance. There is room for improvement and I want to turn things around. However, I’m not exactly sure where to start. I was struggling with (insert any challenges if you can identify them). I was wondering if we could set up a time to meet to discuss a plan going forward to help me reach my goals. I am free at (insert multiple times). Would any of these work for you?

Midterm U-turn Study Techniques

work on tasks in 25-minute intervals, “pomodorros”, taking 5-minute breaks in between. Every 4 pomodorros, take a longer break.

- Teach it to someone else
- Identify gaps in your knowledge
- Review and simplify

Learning through active recall, identifying gaps in knowledge, and reducing test anxiety.

Retrieval practice, critical thinking, improving literacy

Visualize ideas, outline topics, make connections

Quick ways to memorize large amount of information (acronyms, songs or rhymes, association, chunking, method of loci)

Spaced Repetition technique for learning with flashcards
- Take 3 boxes and label them: Easy, Medium, Hard
- Every card starts in the Hard box
- As cards become easier to answer, “promote” them into the Medium or Easy boxes. If you find cards are still challenging, move them back one difficulty level.
- Review the cards in the Hard box 3 times a week, Medium box 2 times a week, and Easy box once a week

Record information spatially, with arrows connecting ideas; emphasize the important details while transcribing the information in a different way from the original lecture
