Faculty Support for Peer Tutoring & Coaching
-
Peer tutors (Sometimes called Learning Coaches) help students understand difficult course concepts by sharing discipline specific learning strategies in content-specific peer tutoring sessions.
Please Note: We try to help students in any way we can! Due to our volume of requests and limitations on tutors, we cannot guarantee that every student that submits a request will be matched with a tutor. When we receive a tutoring request for a course we do not have a tutor in, we collaborate with faculty and other campus partners to support the student.
-
Peer Success Coaches (PSCs) mentor students who wish to develop collegiate-level academic and social engagement skills. They meet and gather with students in one-on-one and small group settings.
Peer Success Coaches can help students with:
- Adjusting to college
- Getting organized
- Setting goals
- Building confidence
- Staying motivated
- Time management
- Study skills
- Making campus connections
-
To be hired as a Peer Tutor, students must:
- Have a record of academic excellence
- Demonstrate a deep commitment to helping other students learn
- Hold a conviction that every student can learn
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Be recommended by a current IC Faculty member
- Have received an A or A- in course(s) that they are willing to tutor
-
Peer Tutoring is a paid position offered through the Academic Support Center's Tutoring & Coaching Program. Peer Tutors must apply for the position, interview, and be recommended by an IC Faculty member that has had them in class. Tutors are hired based on tutoring needs which may change from semester to semester. Once a student is hired they must complete a training program (1 credit course).
-
We try our best to accommodate all tutoring requests, but not all courses will have an available tutor. Courses for first and second year students are prioritized, but if we are able to hire a tutor for upper level courses, we will.
