Educator Opportunities within the Ithaca College Physician Assistant Studies Program

We invite you to become part of the Ithaca College educator team and contribute to preparing the next generation of physician assistants. Opportunities vary and allow you to choose based upon your interests and time availability. While specific qualifications may vary depending upon the opportunity, we have options for those holding degrees as a PA, NP, MD, or DO.

OSCE Proctor (Objective Structured Clinical Exams) – As an OSCE Proctor, you will be involved in real-time evaluations of our learners’ clinical skills. This includes providing constructive feedback shortly after their assessments. You will receive the case instructions in advance, and a faculty member will hold a pre-briefing at the start of the session to discuss the evaluation criteria and process and respond to questions. Proctors typically work for one half or full day on select dates throughout the year. Pay is $75/hour. If you are interested in serving as an OSCE Proctor, please email Julie Dorsey at jdorsey@ithaca.edu for more information.

Guest Lecturer – As a guest lecturer and practicing clinician, you share with our learners your expertise on a clinical topic. We have multiple opportunities to guest lecture in our courses which may take the format of a lecture, lab, or hands-on demonstration. Guest lecturers typically commit 1-3 hours and are supported by a primary faculty member. Pay is $100/hour. If you are interested in serving as a guest lecturer, please email Julie Dorsey at jdorsey@ithaca.edu for more information.

Part-time Lecturer – As a part-time lecturer, you serve as the primary faculty member for a semester-long course. We have multiple opportunities for part-time lecturers and encourage interested individuals to navigate to the Ithaca College employment site (https://ehwy.fa.us2.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1) and submit a cover letter describing areas of interest/expertise and CV to our lecturer pool for the Physician Assistant Studies program. Compensation is based on the college's part-time per credit rate which changes annually and is displayed publicly in the job description.

Preceptors – As a preceptor at your site of employment, you provide a valuable service helping our learners hone their clinical skills during one of the nine clinical rotations they must complete. If you are interested in serving as a preceptor, please email Cecilia Groman at cgroman@ithaca.edu for more information.

About the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program

Situated within our School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College, the Physician Assistant Studies program is a 27-month residential experience enrolling a cohort of 50 learners each year. Its mission is to educate, engage and empower physician assistants to achieve excellence through medical theory, clinical practice, and exemplary professional performance in communities that are historically marginalized, underserved, health professional shortage areas, and rural.

Our program offers several unique components:

  • A dedicated state-of-the-art facility which includes 20,000 square feet of smart classrooms and a Clinical Learning Center that includes high fidelity manikins, dedicated space for simulated clinical experiences, and an operating suite. On main campus, learners have access to Anatomage table, human anatomy lab, healthcare simulation lab, and movement analysis lab.
  • A focus on Team-Based Learning, in which learners actively participate in problem-solving through dialogue and discussion.
  • Collaborative teaching with other programs within the School of HSHP as well as opportunities to engage in interprofessional practice.
  • A Leadership and Professional Series to introduce learners to the PA profession and develop effective leadership and advocacy skills.
  • A Transition to Clinical Practice course, which prepares learners for the PANCE examination while also fine-tuning entry-level skills to ensure clinical readiness prior to graduation.

Ithaca College is a comprehensive residential campus community of approximately 5,000 students, consistently ranked among the best in the Northeast. The School of Health Sciences and Human Performance offers graduate degrees in several health-related fields in addition to physician assistant studies, including athletic training, exercise science, occupational and physical therapy, and speech-language pathology.

Ithaca College offers a distinct integrative learning experience designed to prepare students for the personal, professional, and global challenges of our age. Since its founding, the College has recognized the profound impact of combining academic theory with hands-on practice and a distinctive integration of performance. With 70 majors and 70 minors across five industry-leading schools, students benefit from small class sizes, personal mentorship, collaborative partnerships, and professional guidance—supported by expert faculty and first-rate facilities typically found at larger institutions.
