MY SCHEDULE & HAVING CHILDREN
“I have sick days and it's just kind of expected, like—'If he's got to be out because his kids are sick, someone else will be in’ (…) I have a little more flexibility.”
“When the kids are off from daycare, a couple of weeks from now, [I will have] winter recess. Then I'll be off in the summer. That's nice to be able to spend more time with them. The day also ends at 2, so I'm able to get some stuff done. When I pick them up from daycare at 4:30ish, I don't have to worry about [work anymore] (….) So then when they're home (…) I can be totally ‘Dad’.”
COACHING
I think teaching and coaching goes hand in hand. I was able to coach for several years and probably will return to it. When my daughter was born (…) I said, ‘Okay, that's it. I'm not going to take on another thing.’ (…) So I stopped coaching. I miss certain things, but it's been great to have more time with them, and Saturday mornings just sipping my coffee, and playing with them and pausing, and taking some time.”
“In order to be a good coach, you have to teach (…) I see myself having advantages when I'm coaching because I'm a teacher (…) and vice versa. I think sometimes in the classroom, the way I handle things or think of things or communicate or whatever—it benefits (….) And then, practices are designed to be after school, games are designed to be after school or on the weekend, and so as opposed to having some other job, I think coaching fits with teaching and vice versa.”
