Managing Stressors to Avoid Burnout: Being Healthy

“When I first got here, there was a group of teachers (…) that would walk every day (….) It was just kind of in the culture for them to walk during their prep and eat lunch together later on."

"I guess it is for me to decide—is this [task] a must-do? Or can I get a workout in, or take care of my health, or go to bed and take a nap?”

“I am much healthier now that I'm not a classroom teacher and it's the truth. I don't have as many headaches. I'm not as stimulated by the kids, by parent emails, administration (….) I’d come home and I'd be overstimulated. I’d need to just be down. I’d eat because [it would] make me feel good, a little bit, and I’d overeat, and I'm doing that less. I have way less headaches. It was unbelievable stress. (…) You’d read an email. Okay, now I’ve got to worry about it. What do I say? Who else do I get involved? Do I even answer? All while you're trying to focus on other stuff.”
