“I had a degree in humanities from the university, which there's not much to do with. So I got a teaching certificate after that, because that's what one does. I wasn't really planning on using it. I planned to go do big, exciting things, but I figured it's always good to have this to be able to teach as a backup. And then there was Covid and all of the big, exciting things dried up, and it was clear that this is the time to find something stable and not something that's dependent on some grants from somewhere that's not going to exist, or some organization that's going to close, or who knows if the world is going to exist next year? And there was a high school across the street from my house that was looking for teachers. So I said, ‘Yeah, sure, I'll give that a try.’ And I liked it, so I stayed.”
“I teach English as a foreign language for 7th through 12th grade and my first year I taught in a second school because the school I accepted a job from didn't give me full-time, so I took another part-time job at a different school that I hated. After the first year the school that I liked gave me a full-time job. So since then I've been there full-time.”
