Teaching and Being a Parent

“THE SCHEDULE OF TEACHING IS HELPFUL FOR MY LIFE AS A PARENT”

“I think that the schedule of teaching is helpful for my life as a parent in some ways. Being able to leave at 3 PM if I need to, or want to, to spend more time with my kid is helpful. Because staying too long at work means that then, when I get home, it ends up being a bit stressful with trying to make dinner and spending time with my daughter. So having that piece where the school day ends and I can leave is helpful.”

“And then also having holidays off and the summers off is also really helpful, too, because it's an intense job in some ways, with needing to be on all the time and connecting with kids and people all the time. Having a break to recharge and then a fresh start the following year is really helpful.”

“I do think that when I thought about leaving teaching was when I was pregnant with my daughter three years ago, and one of the reasons I ended up deciding to stay was partly the schedule—that I would have the same days off as her and we could spend more time together than I could if I was in a different job.”
