“There's something I really appreciate about teaching all subjects in elementary school. For example, I teach Social Studies and every day I ride my bicycle for an hour to get to work and another hour on the way back, on bike paths and through the forest, and I always listen to podcasts about Social Studies. So while I'm working on my teaching, I feel like I'm also dedicating time to myself, to enrich myself intellectually. At the same time, I can see that I'm using some of this knowledge—it makes my Social Studies lessons easier. (…) After three years of listening to [these podcasts] every day, I'm starting to accumulate a lot of knowledge. (…) Before, my content knowledge was a bit vague, so it wasn’t easy for me to talk in depth about a specific historical period. Even if I knew it in general, the details were often a bit fuzzy. Now, during these years of teaching, I continue to enrich myself intellectually, and that has sparked a whole new interest in Social Studies for me. I'm starting to read more and I'm passionate about it.”
