Honors & Honor Cords

Congratulations on this important accomplishment. For information regarding Latin Honor Cord distribution, please check the Honors & Honor Cords section of the website.

Family & Guests

For information, please check the Attending 2021 In-person & Virtual Celebrations section of the website.

Families will be able to watch the graduation ceremony via livestream. We will share the link to each ceremony as we get closer to May 23.

We do not expect that students or employees will be vaccinated at a high enough rate by April to ensure their safety. Further, the NYS guidelines on large gatherings and the capacity of our facilities make it impossible for us to accommodate guests at the ceremony.

We are asking that families not come to Ithaca unless absolutely necessary for moving graduates out of Ithaca.

Participating in Commencement 2021

For information, please check the Attending 2021 In-person & Virtual Celebrations section of the website.

To protect our students, employees, and regional community, students who are interacting with their friends for Senior Week activities or Commencement must complete the same arrival protocol that all students competed at the start of the semester.

Our 2020 graduates will not be able to participate in the May 2021 activities. There are activities being planned for June 2021 to recognize our 2020 graduates and more information about these will be shared soon.

Yes, the Commencement Committee has listened to feedback from members of the Class of 2021 and their families. We also met with the senior class officers prior to announcing the new plan.

Unfortunately, there is little probability that New York State will further change the large gathering guidelines in time for us to plan a traditional commencement ceremony. Even if the state changes the guidelines again, large events take extensive planning and we have to have time to ensure a quality event. We have already altered our plan based on the New York State regulations as we know them.

Miscellaneous Questions

Photos will be taken by a professional photographer from Island Photography. Island Photography will email each student at their IC email a unique pin to access the photos.

  • May 2021 diplomas will be mailed mid to late June 2021

  • August 2021 diplomas will be mailed mid to late September 2021

  • December 2021 diplomas will be mailed mid to late January 2022

You may request additional copies of the commencement booklet by emailing registrar@ithaca.edu. Please ensure your request includes the address where the commencement booklet should be sent. Please note: these will not be mailed until after the May 23 ceremony.

After careful review of the New York State Guidelines for Public Health, our infrastructure, requirements for severe weather planning, and security mandates we have made the best choice to ensure a successful in-person graduation for our seniors.
