Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Exploratory advising system work?
Finding an academic focus can be an uncertain journey, and excellent advising is crucial to the success of the Exploratory Program. All exploratory students are assigned to a faculty adviser who works closely with them to help identify evolving interests and possible areas of study. Faculty advisers guide course selection and provide advice about complementary coursework and opportunities outside the classroom. All Exploratory students will be assigned to an adviser who is one of their professors during their first semester at IC, which ensures that there is frequent and meaningful contact with faculty advisors who are specially attuned to first-year students’ concerns. Exploratory students are also supported by the Academic Advising Center, where professional academic advisors connect students with resources for studying and transferring across Ithaca College’s schools, workshops for academic success, as well as access to academic support and enrichment services. Additionally, Exploratory students are given contact information of Exploratory Peer Mentors, or upperclass students who have been on their own journey through the Exploratory Program and are full of helpful advice.
