Abbie Scala Major: I am double majoring in Television-Radio and Creative Writing.

How did you choose your major? If you are still Exploratory, how are you working on choosing a major and what choices are you considering?

I came into IC taking many different and diverse classes. I originally thought I wanted to major in Psychology, but I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do so I became part of the exploratory program! The nice thing about the exploratory program is I was still able to take a general psych class along with many other course that pertained to my interest. Along with extensive research, meeting with program directors, and course searching, in Spring 2018 I was able to come to my final decision on a major. I am very lucky to have had the exploratory program behind my back, because, coming into IC I had so many idea's for a major and it was definitely not the time to choose for myself.

What was your favorite resource to use when you were an Exploratory student?

Personally, my favorite resource, was, and still is, the course catalog on the IC website where you can see all your degree requirements for your current major or just check out some for a major you're interested in, which I did A LOT during fall of freshman year! Another great resource is always going to speak to someone. If you're confused or just want to know more about something, go talk to a program director or a dean! I got so much help from doing just that!

What do you like most about the Exploratory program?

What I like about the exploratory program is the lenient nature and freedom to "explore" your interests. There is never any pressure to figure things out right away, and I think that is the key to a stress-free, true-to-yourself, choice when it comes to picking a major!

What is your biggest piece of advice to other Exploratory students?

Don't stress! You have so much time and so many resources! Including all of us here at the program, your friends, and everything I mentioned! There is nothing to worry about, just be yourself and don't worry!

What extracurricular activities are you involved with on campus?

While I took time to adjust to campus my freshman year, I didn't get involved in many extracurriculars, but I kept my eye on many! This fall I plan to join an acapella group! I'm also looking into the film society, DKA. I've never been big into sports, but this academic year I trying to come out of that shell a bit and try some new things!
