Bruce Henderson, Communication Studies, has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The grant is in the form of acceptance of Henderson into one of the NEH Institutes for College Teachers, "Reconsidering Flannery O'Connor," to be held at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA this July.  GCSU is the alma mater of the great Southern writer Flannery O'Connor, known for her Southern gothic short stories and novels, as well as her exploration of faith, and also houses her archives; her farm, Andalusia, is in the same area.  Henderson will work with more about twenty other college/university teachers and many of the foremost scholars of O'Connor's work and life for four weeks, including having access to the archives.  His specific area of research will be the application of queer theory, disability studies, and immigrant history to O'Connor's writings.  The grant includes financial support for expenses and living accommodations, as well as the opportunity to pursue this research.

This is Henderson's fifth time participating in an NEH-sponsored Summer program; he has been a member of three seminars and one other institute.
