A message from Jack Moylan and Nate Wetzelberg, wrap around care managers.

Although cases are declining the campus community should remain vigilant to prevent further transmission. There are several steps you should take to protect yourself and others while travelling this spring break.

  • Get vaccinated and boosted: Vaccines remain the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19. There are various places in the Ithaca community that are offering vaccination and booster shots.
  • Wear a mask while indoors, on public transport, or in crowded outdoor areas.
  • Follow COVID-19 guidance in the areas you are travelling to and from.
  • Prepare to be flexible during your trip as restrictions and policies may change during your travel.
  • Get tested at least 72 hours before travelling.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

As we approach the midpoint of the semester we are looking forward to resetting over break, but it is also important to remember how far we have come as a community in our fight against COVID-19. Some reminders for when returning to campus:

  • Get tested 72 hours before returning to campus or the Ithaca community.
  • Do not travel to a new community if you are feeling unwell, this is an easy way to spread illness.
  • Be sure to take precautions when travelling to densely populated areas, as these areas are at elevated risk for spreading sickness.

As many places have lifted mask mandates due to the lowered numbers of COVID-19, remember to be cautious when around large groups. As we have seen, when precautions are met, the spread of COVID-19 is minimal. This is something that we hope to carry into the second half of the spring semester, as we look forward to the warmer weather and getting back outside. Always think about how your actions impact Ithaca College and the greater Ithaca community when travelling.

If you are unsure how to unwind during the upcoming break and do not want to travel, Ithaca has many options:

  • Hiking at the many preserves and trails
  • Many restaurants and cuisines
  • Cayuga Nature Center
  • Sciencenter
  • History Center in Tompkins County
  • Museum of the Earth

Have a safe and joyous Spring Break!
