U.S. News & World Report Ranks Ithaca College in Top 10

U.S. News & World Report has once again included Ithaca College among the top colleges and universities in the country. The magazine’s just-released list of “Best Colleges” for 2017 placed Ithaca at #6 out of 195 institutions of its kind in the North region. That’s an improvement from last year’s #9 spot on the list.

The rankings are based on what the magazine considers key measures of an institution’s quality: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance and alumni giving.

“Guidebook rankings are among the many tools we hope high school students and their families will use when choosing which institution is the best fit for them,” said Ithaca College President Tom Rochon. “Specific positions may change from year to year, but we are certainly pleased that Ithaca College has placed consistently well in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, with this being our fifth straight year in the top 10.”

Rochon also noted that there is no question that students get great value from their Ithaca education, pointing to a study by The Economist, which this past year ranked IC at #47 among all colleges and universities in the nation for providing economic value to its graduates.

U.S. News & World Report places Ithaca College in the regional universities category, which includes institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s degree programs but few, if any, doctoral programs (Ithaca College offers one doctoral program). For this category, the rankings are divided into four regions — North, South, Midwest and West. The magazine also has separate ranking categories for national universities, national liberal arts colleges and regional colleges.
