Bio Statement

Over the last year, Emma has devoted her time and energy to service opportunities that reflect her commitment to helping others and her growing passion for the field of Speech-Language Pathology. For the past two years, she has volunteered at the American Red Cross blood drive, helping create an organized, welcoming environment that eases anxiety for donors and ensures the drive runs smoothly. This continued involvement has strengthened her interest in work that supports health and well-being.

This summer, her service extended to the opportunity to work in a speech and hearing clinic. In this position, she supported clinicians in various daily activities, interacted with clients and their families, and observed therapy sessions that offered valuable firsthand exposure to clinical practice. Seeing how the relationships between the clinician and the clients had with one another, strengthened her desire to become a speech-language pathologist.

In addition to her service efforts, Emma was awarded two significant academic honors this year: the Wegmans Scholarship and the Charles F. Saxton ’51 Scholarship, which is awarded each year to one student majoring in a health-related field. Both awards recognize her academic dedication, leadership, and strong motivation to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Through these experiences, Emma has demonstrated compassion, curiosity, and purpose. Her involvement reflects her commitment to her community and her determination to prepare herself to serve future clients with empathy, competence, and meaningful real-world experience.

What is an IAP Scholar?

To me, becoming an IAP Scholar means feeling supported and encouraged to grow into the type of professional that can change lives as well as bettering myself. It reinforces my commitment to serving others and reminds me why I am so eager to enter the field of Speech-Language Pathology.
