Bio Statement
Ty has been privileged to take part in several different experiences and involvements within Ithaca College and throughout the greater Ithaca community. Ty’s favourite being aiding in the maintenance and upkeep of the greater Ithaca community by taking part in a First Dam Clean-Up with the Rotaract and Give clubs. Ty was especially passionate about this service opportunity, as he had spent his whole summer staying on Ithaca’s campus, and First Dam was their favourite place to take some reprieve from campus. He was able to spend time there to enjoy nature, sit with a good book, and bathe in the sun, along with many group trips with other students to swim and enjoy the water on the hot summer days. Being able to take an afternoon and clean this area to ensure it resembled the surreal scene of natural beauty that they enjoyed all summer was something he was more than pleased to take part in.
Ty’s involvement in the Ithaca College student government and role as RHA President also allowed him to give back to the IC community on campus. Over the Thanksgiving break, Ty was able to host a dinner for all students that, for many reasons, could not return home to their families. This allowed him to tackle two issues that they personally have a strong reservation for, which are food insecurity and community engagement. Ty organised this dinner for all students living on campus and was able to bring many students together for a celebration of gratitude, community, and reflection, letting them know that they were not alone at Ithaca College.
What does it mean to be an IAP Scholar?
To me, being an IAP scholar is important, as it gives me the resources to be proactive in my own life and seek out experiences like organising campus-wide events or taking on community service, which is a skill that I want to make my own and take along with me for the rest of my life.
