Here at Ithaca, we have the opportunity to explore a lot of different paths.

Marvin ’27

Marvin fell in love with Ithaca College the moment he sat by the fountains overlooking Cayuga Lake. Inspired by IC’s facilities and faculty, he immersed himself in music. He found inspiration in Ithaca’s creative culture and felt he was in the right place to pursue his goals as a musician and a music educator.

But by the end of his sophomore year, another longtime passion kept resurfacing. “There was always this recurring thought about pursuing medicine,” he says. “A lot of people assume that you have to major in biology or science, but that's not required at all. I didn’t want to end my college career without at least giving myself the opportunity. So that’s when I just decided to fully go for it and start taking some of the classes that are required to apply to medical school.”

Beyond the classroom, Marvin joined a local fire company, drawn to the opportunity to serve the Ithaca community. Last year, he earned his certification as an emergency medical technician, an experience that sparked his interest in emergency medicine. “You get to see something new all the time,” he says. “People come to you on some of the worst days of their lives, so you get to really do something to help them out and actually make them feel better.”
