Eileen P. Kelly lost her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 2, 2013. Eileen was a tenured professor in Ithaca College’s School of Business, and specialized in management, business ethics, and employment law. She was noted for her scholarly work and publications concerning business ethics, employment rights, religion and employee workplace rights, privacy rights, labor, and management history, and held many professional affiliations and received numerous honors and awards during her teaching career.
Eileen was born in Steubenville, Ohio, and was one of three children. In 1978, she graduated with a bachelor’s in accounting from the College of Steubenville. She then earned both her master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Cincinnati in the field of industrial relations.
Eileen started her life in academia in 1981 as lecturer at University of Cincinnati, going on to positions at Creighton University and Louisiana State University in Shreveport. She began her work at Ithaca College in 1993, and was promoted to the rank of professor in 1999.
Professor Susan P.S. Rosenthal, Eileen’s colleague and friend, said, “Eileen not only taught ethics, she lived it. She was a true friend and a good person.”
Her valued contributions to the School of Business and to the college are beyond measure, and she is missed by friends, family, and colleagues.
