You’ve got your popcorn, your phone’s on “silent,” and you’re watching previews when you recognize Ithaca College’s library on the big screen. The short film isn’t the work of seasoned alumni—it’s the debut from first-year IC students Eva Kirie and Clara Montague.

Eva and Clara submitted The Library to the 2018 Coca-Cola Regal Films program, booking a first-place win. The Library was then screened in Regal Cinemas nationwide for a year.

“I couldn’t even believe it,” says Eva. “It means so much to us as aspiring filmmakers.”

The television-radio majors entered the contest as a result of a class assignment. Students were required to pitch a script, crew list, and budget for the Coca-Cola/Regal competition, but they weren’t required to officially enter the contest. Confident in their script, Eva and Clara partnered with a crew from Park Productions and Park Media Lab director Carol Jennings.

“I cannot stress enough that this was a team effort, and we could not have done this without their help and support. There’s no freshmen that get these types of opportunities at any other school.”

For their win, Eva and Clara received a cutting-edge Red Raven camera kit, and IC received a Red Epic-W 8K S35 camera.

Filmed at IC and Regal Stadium 14, The Library features a student studying in a library when he receives a notification about a new movie release. When he asks a friend to the movie, strangers invite themselves along.

If you haven’t seen the film yet, you’re overdue to check out The Library.
