Academy Award–Nominated Documentary on Terminally Ill Inmate Screened at Ithaca College

ITHACA, NY—The documentary “Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall” will be screened at Ithaca College on Tuesday, March 29. Free and open to the public, the 7 p.m. showing in Textor 102 will be followed by a discussion.

The film tells the story of Jack Hall, a terminally ill octogenarian sentenced to a life term in the Iowa State Penitentiary. The cameras go behind the prison walls to witness the last six months of Hall’s life and the creation of a hospice run by other inmates serving life sentences, delivering a poignant and no-nonsense look at the aging population in America’s prisons, and how one group helps the incarcerated die with dignity.

“Prison Terminal” was nominated for a 2014 Academy Award for best short subject documentary.

The screening is sponsored by the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute and Department of Philosophy and Religion. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/gerontology/.
