1. Familiarize Yourself with OSE

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) handles all things student involvement on the Ithaca College campus. We provide programming related to leadership development and volunteer programs and host all resources for student organizations. The Student Leadership Consultants (SLCs) work with professional staff members to develop and market these programs.

OSE programs include Student Leadership Institute, SOS (Student Organization Specialists) Team, Women Leaders Series, Student Organization Finance and Travel, Knowledge to Action Retreat, New Student Organization Recognition, Service Saturdays, and more. To learn more about our office and programs available, visit our website!

2. Utilize Your Campus Resources

Career Services Website

Ithaca College has various resources to help you succeed in applying for a job. Utilize Career Services to get ready for the interview process - you can even meet with someone for a practice interview. Don’t hesitate to reach out to current SLCs with questions about the job as well! There are always a few SLCs in OSE or the Student Activities Center at any given time. Think about your own experiences and involvement and how they relate to the position.

3. Update Your Resumé and Cover Letter

Your resumé and cover letter will be the first thing the selection committee sees from you. Make sure your materials are up to date to make a great first impression! Include the most relevant information to the job description and showcase your strengths as a candidate. Career Services has resources on how to get started and make your resumé and cover letter stand out and you can stop by during drop in hours to review your materials.

4. Dress to Impress

Business Professionals

When attending your interview, put your best foot forward. Pick an interview look that shows your personality but is still professional. There’s no need to show up in a full suit but present yourself in a way that shows your commitment to the job. If you do not have access to business casual clothing, check out the newly created Career Closet on campus!

5. Remember the Details

Attention to small details can go a long way in an application process. Make sure you proofread your application materials and put forth your best effort. When attending your interview, arrive early, be courteous, and always say thank you!

6. Be Yourself

It’s okay to be nervous when applying for any leadership position, just take a deep breath and remember to be yourself! OSE is looking for a diverse range of majors and skill sets to fill the open positions. There is no recipe for the “perfect” SLC. The main thing we are looking for in the application process is to get to know you. Have confidence in your abilities and showcase your experiences!

7. Have a Positive Attitude
