When scheduling permits, students will be assigned to an age- or level-appropriate enrichment class.

After carefully reading the following enrichment class options and requirements, please indicate first, second, and third choices in the spaces provided on the registration form.

Note: The institute cannot guarantee your first choice. Students who do not sign up for enrichment will not be assigned to this option.

  • Fiddling class is open to violinists, violists, and cellists in Book 3 or 4. Some experience with simple double-stops is helpful. Students will learn basic fiddle tunes in various styles by ear.
  • Creative Ability Development is new this year and is open to any age and level, exploring improvisation and the art of choice. Rule #1 in CAD games and practice is "There's No Such Thing As a Mistake!". This allows players to find their unique musical voices, developing unique musicality in the process.
  •  Dalcroze is the approach of learning and expressing music through rhythmic movement. This class will include interactive games and rhythmic exercises for all instruments and levels, ages 5-13 and will be a great way to get some movement in your day! Materials needed for this class include: chopsticks, a 6 inch rubber ball, and a balloon.
  • Yoga for Tweens: Another wonderful opportunity for movement in your day, this enrichment, taught by a Suzuki Teacher and certified Yoga instructor, is designed for 9-12 year old musicians of any level and instrument.
  • Introduction to Composition: In this enrichment we will explore and experiment with the tools needed to create your own compositions or arrangements spreading from unique harmonies for Twinkle, more variations on La Folia, newly composed melodies, accompaniments, and arrangements, to creating and playing our own instruments with whatever we have lying around the house. The foundations of tone, rhythm, and technique so important to Suzuki can easily crossover and be utilized to our advantage in our compositions. This enrichment serves as a way to expand the capabilities of our music learning and give just a small taste of the creative and unique possibilities available.
