Bio Statement
Over the past year, Nathanial Shears has remained highly involved in campus life at Ithaca College. In addition to his academic responsibilities as an Athletic Training student and his clinical hours in the athletic training clinic, Nate serves as a Resident Assistant in the Upper Quads, where he helps foster a supportive, inclusive, and safe residential community.
Nate is actively involved in numerous student organizations across campus. He serves as Co-President of the Dual Court Club (DCC), where he leads and manages the pickleball component of the organization. Beyond this executive role, he is involved with the Ithaca Achievement Program (IAP), the Unity Center, the Center for Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (CEIB), Equity in Athletic Training (EquAT), the Ithaca Athletic Training Student Association (IATSA), the IC Brazilian Student Association (ICBSA), IC Men’s Rugby, the Office of Access, Opportunity, and Achievement (OAOA), and Rotaract Club. Through these organizations, Nate engages in service, leadership, cultural involvement, and advocacy centered on equity and inclusion.
Professionally, Nate is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and attends the Eastern Athletic Training Association (EATA) conference annually to further his professional development and remain engaged with the athletic training community. In addition to his academic and organizational involvement, he works as an Intramural Supervisor in Campus Recreation.
What is an IAP Scholar?
As an IAP Scholar, I have increased my sense of belonging on the Ithaca College Campus while also making strides professionally. The guided program has helped me to personally stay on top of all that I do, while also keeping my eyes on what may come after Ithaca College. It has also allowed me to build meaningful connections with like-minded scholars who make me feel seen and who share similar experiences to my own.
