Bio Statement
Marian Sanchez is a first-generation Mexican-American college student from Norwalk, Connecticut, majoring in Business Marketing. She is deeply committed to serving her community and creating supportive spaces for students from underrepresented backgrounds. Over the past year, Marian has been actively involved in several campus organizations centered on leadership, cultural identity, and service. She is the Marketing and Social Media Director for the First-Generation Student Club and the Co-Marketing Chair for the ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) Ithaca College Chapter, where she works to increase visibility, engagement, and professional development opportunities for first-generation and Latino students. Beyond campus leadership, Marian actively engages in community service across both the Ithaca College and Cornell communities. She volunteers with No Más Lágrimas and recently began working with the Southern Tier AIDS Program (STAP) to assist with public health outreach and education efforts. She serves as Vice President of The Alpha Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Sorority, Inc., where she helps plan educational programs, wellness initiatives, and service events that promote Hermandad (Sisterhood) and advocacy for Latinas on campus.

What does it mean to be an IAP Scholar?

Being an IAP Scholar means achieving my goals while fully using the resources available to me, and being recognized as a Latina leader in a space where students like me are often underrepresented and undersupported. It honors both my hard work and my family’s sacrifices, while reminding me that my education is not just for me, but for the communities I hope to serve and uplift.
