Bio Statement
Glenda-Avril (Glenda) Galloway is an enthusiastic student leader, community advocate, and emerging theatre professional at Ithaca College. She is currently a Sophomore studying Stage Management with a minor in African Diaspora Studies, a combination that fuels her commitment to amplifying Black and POC voices in the arts. Glenda ultimately hopes to write, direct, and create productions that center the stories, brilliance, and lived experiences of people of color, using performance as a tool for visibility, empowerment, and cultural preservation. On campus, she serves as a Peer Educator at the Ithaca College Unity Center, where she supports inclusive programming, while fostering intentional dialogues, and helps cultivate a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds. She is also a dedicated member of several organizations around campus.

As the Event Coordinator for Sister2Sister, she helps design meaningful programming that nurtures community and celebrates sisterhood. She serves as Vice President of the Black Student Union, and uses her position to create a space for students to come and voice their experiences on campus as a minority, and acts as Secretary for IC Haitians, promoting Haitian visibility and cultural pride.

Glenda-Avril is connected to the wider Ithaca community as well. She is one of the founders of The Neighborhood Care Project, an initiative created by college students that raises funds and assemble mini care packages for people who are unhoused. Through this project, she works to address immediate needs while inspiring students to take collective responsibility for community care.

What does it mean to be an IAP Scholar?

Being an IAP Scholar to me has been learning the proponents of self advocacy and being able to advocate for myself what this program has ultimately taught me is to get ahead of those fears by being able to utilize the resources that are being offered to me whether that be here in the academic setting or even the professional. This is important for my future career because then I will be able to guide those that I oversee on the resources that are available to them
