Bio Statement
Over the course of 2025, Mercilyn Ackom-Brew has engaged in many services and involvements throughout the Ithaca College campus. Being a community-driven person, Mercilyn has joined and attended many organizations and clubs. Some of those being Sister 2 Sister and the African Students Association. Within the town of Ithaca itself, Mercilyn has also started working at Wegman's, providing her services as a dishwasher and salad attendant, where she is able to engage with the common citizens of Ithaca in positive conversation. Along with these involvements, Mercilyn also puts aside time so that she can provide her services to the voter registration table. At this table, she helps facilitate students in their process of registering to vote.

This community-oriented mindset is nothing new for Mercilyn, as throughout the summer and earlier in 2025, she engaged in many other services within her hometown of East Haven, Connecticut. Whether it be from teaching eighth graders how to shoot their own videos to helping the East Haven Television Program with their broadcast of town events and town meetings. Additionally, furthering these local town involvements, Mercilyn also used her summer to participate with the East Haven Arts Commission to put on a local community-oriented production of the musical Zombie Prom. From clubs and organizations to company and talent involvements, wherever Mercilyn goes, she finds a commitment and passion to involve herself in the community and the people around her in whatever way possible. While Mercilyn does engage in a lot of activities and services, she always finds time to schedule them accordingly so that all her commitments are met and done to its fullest possible extent. Mercilyn has a strong value and passion for helping others and communities around her. No matter how big or small, Mercilyn will always try to show up and give support to whoever needs it.

What does it mean to be an IAP Scholar?

The IAP program to me means a community where people can facilitate each other to help them with the task everyone should be doing in college to further their professional journeys. With this community the program provides, it allows for accountability and more motivation to help students like myself keep track of their professional journeys throughout college and beyond.
