Bio Statement
Over the past year, Nafisa has been deeply engaged in community service and work experiences that reflect her commitment to responsible service and meaningful connection. She volunteered with New York State parks, where she contributed to Environmental Conservation efforts such as maintaining trails and supporting the preservation of natural spaces. This work often took place in the early morning and required consistency, teamwork, and dedication. Through this experience, she developed a stronger appreciation for sustainability and learned how collective efforts can create long-term positive impact for the community. Alongside her volunteer work, Nafisa was employed at Ithaca Bakery, where she served a diverse range of customers in a fast-paced environment. This rule strengthened her communication, time management, and problem-solving skills while reinforcing the importance of kindness and patience. Interacting with customers and seeing their gratitude and appreciation made the experience especially rewarding and reaffirmed her passion for serving others.

In addition to her service and work commitments, Nafisa has been involved in activities that emphasize inclusion, achievement, and personal growth. She participated in unified basketball and experienced that it highlighted teamwork, mutual respect, and the value of creating an inclusive space for individuals of all abilities. Being part of this program reinforced her belief in collaboration and equity, both on and off the court. Nafisa also earned the seal of biliteracy and demonstrated proficiency in three languages: English, Dari, and Pashto. This achievement reflects her dedication to academic excellence, cultural connection, and effective communication across diverse communities, and it continues to shape how she engages with others.

Being an IAP scholar to me goes beyond participating or recognition; it represents understanding my role and moving forward with purpose, which means actively engaging in my community, valuing diversity, and taking meaningful action that prepares me for the future while staying committed to growth, service, and positive changes.
