Bio Statement
Hi! My name is Addison Carter, I am a Journalism major with a double minor in Sociology and Politics. In the community and on campus, I am the freshman cohort leader for the MLK scholars, assisting with activities for the cohort. In addition, I am the social media manager for Ithaca’s Mock Trial team, and I am a part of the IC Young Feminist Collective. Next semester, I will be an Orientation Leader for the incoming freshmen and I will be working as a part of the Campus Center desk staff during the fall semester. In addition, I am an intern at a college prep program named Abigail Hillman & Associates, where I work in social media and general information presenting for newcomers. In high school, I partook in a boarding program named A Better Chance, where minority students can have access to better education systems outside of their hometown. This program introduced me to Abigail Hillman & Associates while I was applying to college my junior and senior year, and now I have the amazing opportunity to give back to the program that helped me. I have a strong passion for social justice and advocacy, specifically for women of color within the political field. Being an MLK scholar means educating myself on civil rights to use those ideals in the real world when confronted with social advocacy.
